Cerium tungsten rod
cerium:
Cerium is the most abundant rare earth element, accounting for approximately 0.0046% of the earth's crust by weight.
It is found in many minerals, the most important being monazite and bastnasite.

There are many commercial applications for cerium. They include catalysts, fuel additives to reduce emissions and additives to glass and enamel that change the color.

Cerium oxide is an important component of glass polishing powders and phosphors used in screens and fluorescent lamps. It is also used in lighter "flint" (actually ferrocene).
