Tungsten wire production process---pre-sintering
The brittle rod is placed in a refractory metal boat and charged into a furnace in a hydrogen atmosphere. The high temperatures begin to cement the material together. The density of the material is approximately 60% - 70% of full density, with little or no grain growth.
Tungsten wire production process - complete sintering - the rod is put into a special water-cooled processing bottle. Electric current will pass through this strip. The heat generated by this current will densify the metal rod to about 85 to 95 percent of its full density and shrink it by about 15 percent. Additionally, tungsten crystals begin to form within the rod.
