Zr702 and Zr705
The element zirconium (Zr, 40) is in Group 4 and Period 5 of the periodic table. It is a silver-gray metal with impressive strength and corrosion resistance. Applications for zirconium include heat exchangers, pipes and fittings, pump and valve housings, nuclear power reactors, sputtering targets, and more.
There are two main types of corrosion-resistant zirconium alloys: Zr702 and Zr705, which are suitable for a variety of chemical conditions.
Zr702 is a zirconium alloy composed of 99.2% zirconium and 0.2% hydrogen. Also known as Zircaloy-2, it is widely used in nuclear applications as a cladding material for fuel rods. Zr702 has excellent corrosion resistance and low neutron absorption, making it an ideal material for nuclear reactors.
Zr705 is composed of 95.5% zirconium, 2.0% niobium, 1.5% tin and 0.15% oxygen. Also known as Zircloy-4, it is commonly used in the chemical processing industry, particularly in applications where materials are exposed to high temperatures and corrosive environments.
