Tungsten is a chemical element with the symbol W and atomic number 74.
It is an off-white shiny metal. Pure tungsten is used primarily in electrical applications, while tungsten composites and alloys are used in a variety of applications, notably as filament in incandescent lamps, in X-ray tubes (as filament and target), and as components in superalloys.
