The Role Of Ferrosilicon in Steelmaking

The role of ferrosilicon in steelmaking
1. Reduce impurities
Ferrosilicon can react with oxides and non-metallic elements to form oxidizing solids, which can isolate impurities from molten steel, thus reducing the impact of impurities on the properties of steel. At the same time, ferrosilicon can also reduce the content of sulfur and other elements in steel and improve the quality of steel.
2. Improve quality and performance
Ferrosilicon can improve the hardness, ductility, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of steel. Steel containing an appropriate amount of ferrosilicon has better wear resistance and is more durable than ordinary steel.
3. Low cost and easy to operate
Compared with other alloy materials, ferrosilicon is relatively cheap and easy to react when added to the charge. During the ferrosilicon steelmaking process, the silicon content of the steel can be controlled by adjusting the input amount of ferrosilicon, so the changes are relatively easy to control.
