The role of ferrosilicon in steelmaking
Main uses of ferrosilicon Ferrosilicon is widely used in the steel industry, foundry industry and other industrial production. Ferrosilicon is an essential deoxidizer in the steelmaking industry. In steelmaking, ferrosilicon is used for precipitation deoxidation and diffusion deoxidation. Brick iron is also used as an alloying agent in steelmaking. Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of the steel, increase the magnetic permeability of the steel, and reduce the hysteresis loss of transformer steel.
Ferrosilicon functions as a deoxidizer, alloying agent and reducing agent. The functions of silicon manganese are deoxidizer, alloying agent and desulfurizer. Silicon can significantly increase the elasticity and magnetic permeability of steel. Manganese can reduce the brittleness of the stiffness, improve the heat treatment properties of the stiffness, and increase the strength, hardness and wear resistance of the stiffness.
Silicon-manganese alloys can deoxidize and potentially increase the manganese content in finished steel and increase its strength. Therefore, the proportion of silicon-manganese alloy used as deoxidizer is gradually higher than that of ferrosilicon. As the saying goes, "You can't make steel without manganese." At present, the role of manganese in the steel production process cannot be replaced by other elements.
