Vanadium is a key component of vanadium batteries (full name: vanadium redox flow batteries). Compared with lithium batteries, vanadium batteries have five major advantages: first, long service life, up to 20 years; second, large energy storage power and high efficiency, now with 6 megawatts of applications, can be used to build kilowatt-level to 100 megawatt-level energy storage power stations; third, high discharge rate, can achieve 100% discharge, battery damage is small; fourth, small safety risks, vanadium batteries are liquid flow batteries, electrolysis in liquid form to generate electricity, the possibility of overheating and explosion is greatly reduced; fifth, the electrolyte is recycled, recyclable, and less polluting. According to CITIC Securities' forecast, by 2030, the global vanadium battery consumption is expected to exceed 100,000 tons, and the proportion of vanadium consumption in the energy storage field will increase to more than 40%, becoming the most important consumption field outside the steel industry. The rapid growth of vanadium consumption in the energy storage field will create a driving force for vanadium prices to rise.
