Common Uses And Applications Of Silicon Metal

ZhenAn Metal Silicon Manufacturers Environment

Metallic silicon is a key ingredient in the production of silicone compounds that are used to make adhesives, sealants, lubricants and rubber products. In addition, metallic silicon plays a vital role in the manufacture of solar cells, semiconductors, and electronic devices, contributing to the advancement of modern technology.

Industrial Silicon

In addition, it acts as an alloying agent to increase the strength and durability of aluminum alloys, stainless steel and other metal alloys.

Metal Silicon

Do not overlook its importance in the production of refractories, ceramics and glass, as its excellent heat resistance makes it indispensable in the construction and automotive industries.

Production and manufacturing of Silicon Industry
The production and manufacturing of silicon metal is a complex process involving a range of extraction, refining and manufacturing techniques.

Polysilicon

This valuable substance is derived from silica, the most abundant compound found in the earth's crust.
The first step in producing metallic silicon is to extract the silicon from silica. Silica is usually found in the form of quartz and is subjected to high temperatures in the presence of carbon.

Pure Silicon Crystal

The process, called carbothermal reduction, involves the reaction of silica with carbon to form silica gas and carbon monoxide. By further reduction with carbon, the silica gas is converted into metallic silicon.

Pure Silicon Metal

After the metallic silicon is extracted, it undergoes a refining process to eliminate impurities and achieve the desired purity level. The purification process uses a variety of techniques, including fractionation, chemical treatment, and electrolysis.

Silicon Alloy

Fractional distillation is used to separate impurities such as silicon tetrachloride from silicon metal. Chemical treatments, such as adding hydrochloric acid or chlorine, help remove impurities such as aluminum, iron and calcium. In addition, electrolysis is used to obtain high-purity metallic silicon. This involves passing an electric current through a molten mixture of silicon and flux, creating pure silicon metal.
There are different methods of producing metallic silicon, each with its own advantages and applications. The most common method is the industrial production of metallurgical grade silicon using submerged arc furnaces. In this method, a mixture of carbon and silica is heated to high temperatures in an electric arc furnace. The carbon reduces the silica, forming molten silicon, which is then collected and cooled.
Another method used to produce Pure Silicon Crystal is the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. The method involves the reaction of a silicon-containing gas with a reducing agent, resulting in the deposition of silicon metal on the substrate. The CVD process is particularly suitable for the production of silicon thin films, which are widely used in electronic applications.
