Description
Description
Calcined petcoke is a crucial material used in the manufacturing of graphite electrodes. These electrodes are widely used in the steelmaking industry for electric arc furnace (EAF) and ladle furnace (LF) operations.
The calcination process involves heating green petroleum coke (GPC) to a temperature of around 1200 to 1350°C, which removes most of the volatile matter present in the material. The resulting calcined petcoke has a high carbon content, low ash content, and low sulfur content, making it an ideal raw material for producing high-quality graphite electrodes.
Graphite electrodes are made by blending calcined petcoke with coal tar pitch and then extruding the mixture through a die to form cylindrical electrode blanks. The blanks are then baked in a high-temperature furnace to convert them into dense, high-strength graphite electrodes.
The quality of the petcoke used for electrode production is critical, as it directly affects the quality and performance of the electrodes. High-quality calcined petcoke should have a low sulfur content, low ash content, and high carbon content. It should also have a low volatile matter content, as a high volatile matter content can lead to electrode breakage during use.

Packing
1. Bulk: Bulk packing is the most common method of transporting large quantities of calcined petcoke. It is usually loaded into trucks or railcars and transported to the end-user's facility where it is stored in silos or other storage units.
2. Bags: Calcined petcoke can also be packed in bags of various sizes, usually ranging from 25 kg to 1 ton. Bags are usually made of high-quality materials that ensure protection from moisture and other environmental factors.
3. Jumbo bags: These are large bags that can hold up to 1 ton of calcined petcoke. They are usually made of woven polypropylene and are an excellent alternative to bulk packing, especially when shipping small quantities.
4. Drums: Calcined petcoke can also be packed in steel drums, which are usually lined with plastic to prevent moisture from penetrating the petcoke. Drums are ideal for transporting small quantities of calcined petcoke over long distances.
