Ferro silicon barium (Fe-Si-Ba) is a ternary alloy consisting of iron (Fe), silicon (Si), and barium (Ba), with minor impurities (e.g., aluminum, manganese, calcium). Typical compositions are:
• Silicon (Si): 15–40% (varies by grade).
• Barium (Ba): 5–20% (key alloying element).
• Iron (Fe): Balance (~60–80%).
Higher barium content enhances deoxidation efficiency, while silicon improves fluidity. It is used in specialty steels and cast irons where precise control of impurities (e.g., oxygen, sulfur) is critical.
Metallic calcium is the pure elemental form of calcium (Ca), a soft, silvery-white alkali metal (Group 2 of the periodic table). It has a low melting point (~842°C) and high reactivity, making it difficult to handle in air (it oxidizes rapidly) or water (it reacts violently to produce hydrogen gas). It is produced industrially via electrolysis of molten calcium chloride (CaCl₂) in a Downs cell.
