We understand that ferrosilicon silicon and oxygen can easily combine to form silicon dioxide. It is made of coke, steel scraps, and quartz and smelted in an electric furnace. It is often used as a deoxidizer in steelmaking and is widely used in low-alloy structural steel, alloy steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel. At the same time, since SIO2 releases a lot of heat when it is generated, it is also beneficial to increase the temperature of molten steel while deoxidizing. Ferrosilicon is used as an alloying element. In addition, ferrosilicon is often used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production and chemical industry.
The continuous operation method we know is that as the charge is subjected to high temperature, it keeps melting, so that the charge surface changes accordingly; at the same time, new charge is constantly added, and the charge in the furnace is always kept full. It is released regularly according to the amount of alloy accumulated in the furnace. During the entire smelting process, the electrode is inserted deeper into the charge, and the arc is not exposed, so the heat loss is small and the furnace temperature is high.
Due to these characteristics of ferrosilicon smelting, the entire smelting process is not divided into stages. This method is called continuous operation. Ferrosilicon is also smelted in a blast furnace. However, due to its low furnace temperature, the silicon content of the product is about 10-20%, and the blast furnace method is generally not used to smelt ferrosilicon.
