How Many Specifications Are There For Ferrophosphorus For Casting?

How many specifications are there for ferrophosphorus for casting?
Phosphorus content 20.0%~26.0%: This is a commonly used ferrophosphorus specification in casting. Because of its suitable phosphorus content, it can significantly improve some properties of cast iron. Adding an appropriate amount of phosphorus to cast iron can significantly improve its tensile strength and make cast iron parts more durable. Wear-resistant cast iron contains about 0.15% phosphorus, which can significantly improve its wear resistance and extend its service life.

Ferro phosphorus chemical composition

Grade Chemical Compositions(%)
P Si C S Mn
≤(Max)
FeP24 23.0-25.0 3.0 1.0 0.5 2.0
FeP21 20.0-23.0 3.0 1.0 0.5 2.0
FeP18 17.0-20.0 3.0 1.0 0.5 2.5
FeP16 15.0-17.0 3.0 1.0 0.5 2.5

The specifications and size can according to customer's requirement.

In some castings, such as train brake shoes, ferrophosphorus containing 0.7%~1.0% phosphorus can form a uniform binary phosphorus eutectic structure with a network distribution. This phosphorus eutectic has high hardness, which not only improves the wear resistance of the casting, but also improves its thermal conductivity and heat resistance. The addition of phosphorus can improve the fluidity of molten iron, thereby improving the performance and surface quality of the casting.
In the steelmaking process, ferrophosphorus can also be used as a deoxidizer. When ferrophosphorus is added to molten steel, it can quickly react with oxygen in the molten steel to generate oxides and float to the surface of the molten steel, thereby achieving the purpose of deoxidation. At the same time, the addition of ferrophosphorus can also purify molten steel, remove impurities and oxides, and improve the purity and quality of molten steel.
