How is ferrosilicon made?
Ferro silicon, often abbreviated as FeSi, is an alloy of iron and silicon that also contains small amounts of other elements. The most popular ferrosilicon grade contains 75 wt% silicon ("FeSi75"), but levels range from 15-90 wt%, depending on the application.

The highest quality ferrosilicon is made in an electric arc furnace by reducing silica with coke in the presence of iron (usually from scrap steel or iron ore). Ferrosilicon usually comes in shiny metallic gray blocks but is also available in pre-formed blocks.
