Ferromanganese is produced through a process called carbothermic reduction, where manganese ores, such as pyrolusite (MnO2), are mixed with a carbonaceous material and heated in a high-temperature furnace. The carbon reduces the manganese oxide, resulting in the formation of ferromanganese alloy. The manganese content in ferromanganese typically ranges from 30% to 80%, with the remaining portion primarily being iron.
