Ferro-tungsten is an alloy of tungsten (68–72% or 78–86%) and molybdenum (up to 7%), the rest is Fe and impurities. Ferro-tungsten is obtained by smelting from wolframite and scheelite concentrates.
Frro-tungsten is one of the most important alloying elements in the production of special steel grades.
It increases their heat resistance and resistance to tempering. In addition, ferrotungsten increases the hardness and wear resistance of alloys, increases the ultimate strength and yield strength of steel with a slight decrease in the relative elongation. Therefore, it is mainly used in the production of tool steels (for example, high-speed) and high-temperature alloys.
