As a deoxidizer for steel, silicon-calcium-barium alloy or silicon-calcium-barium-aluminum alloy, or silicon-calcium-manganese alloy is often used.
In addition to magnesium and rare earth metals, calcium can also reduce the oxygen content and sulfur content that hinder the formation of spheroidized graphite, and promote the spheroidization of graphite in castings. Calcium is widely used as a denaturant in steelmaking and alloys. Treating metal melts with pure calcium or its alloys can improve the physical and chemical properties of the metal, which is beneficial to improving the morphology of oxide and sulfide inclusions in finished steel products and castings.
