Application of niobium in high temperature alloys

Superalloys are high-performance alloys with excellent mechanical strength, thermal creep resistance, surface stability and corrosion resistance.

Up to 6.5% niobium can be used in nickel-, cobalt- and iron-based superalloys.

These alloys are particularly useful in the aerospace industry for producing jet engine components, which can reach temperatures in excess of 1832°F (1000°C).
