The global supply of vanadium resources is highly concentrated, mainly from vanadium slag obtained by steel metallurgical processing of vanadium-titanium magnetite
In the past 20 years, global vanadium ore production has steadily increased, mainly concentrated in China, Russia, South Africa and Brazil. According to statistics from the United States Geological Survey, in 2021, the global vanadium ore production was about 110,000 tons (metal content). Among them, China, Russia, South Africa and Brazil accounted for 66.36%, 17.27%, 8.27% and 6.09% respectively, accounting for a total of about 98%. From the perspective of manufacturers, in 2021, the top five global production companies are Panzhihua Iron and Steel Group (20.6%), Russia's Evraz (12.8%), Hesteel Group Chenggang Company (8.9%), Chengde Jianlong (8%), and Sichuan Desheng (6%), accounting for 56.3% of the global total production. In 2020, about 74.8% of the world's vanadium came from vanadium slag obtained from vanadium-titanium magnetite through steel metallurgical processing, about 3.8% of vanadium production came from direct vanadium extraction from vanadium-titanium magnetite, and the rest came from secondary recovery of vanadium-containing byproducts (vanadium-containing fuel ash, waste chemical catalysts, etc.) and vanadium-containing stone coal.
