Ferromolybdenum is mainly used as an alloying agent in the production of steel. By adding ferromolybdenum to steel, the resulting alloy exhibits improved strength, hardness, toughness, and high-temperature resistance. It also enhances the corrosion resistance and weldability of steel.

 Molybdenum, the primary component of ferromolybdenum, has a high melting point of about 2,623°C (4,753°F). This characteristic makes ferromolybdenum suitable for applications requiring materials with excellent high-temperature stability, such as in the aerospace and automotive industries.

 Ferromolybdenum also acts as a deoxidizing agent in steel production. It helps remove oxygen and other impurities from the molten steel, resulting in a cleaner and more homogeneous final product.

 The molybdenum content in ferromolybdenum varies depending on the desired properties of the alloy. Common compositions range from 60% to 75% molybdenum, with the remaining percentage being iron and trace amounts of other elements like carbon, silicon, and manganese.
