India Ferromanganese Export Price (Sep 28, 2023)

What Ferromanganese Is

Ferromanganese is an iron-manganese alloy used to add manganese to steel, where it improves strength, hardness and toughness and helps control sulphur. It is one of the highest-volume ferroalloys in steelmaking.

Grades are classified by carbon content: high carbon, medium carbon and low carbon, each with a defined manganese and carbon range.

The Grades Traded from India

High carbon ferromanganese: the bulk grade, used for general steelmaking and deoxidation.

Medium carbon ferromanganese: for steels needing lower carbon without extreme cost.

Low carbon ferromanganese: for stainless and low-carbon steels where carbon must be tightly controlled.

Each grade is quoted separately, so the grade must always accompany the price.

How Export Prices Are Quoted

Indian ferromanganese is quoted per metric tonne, usually on an FOB basis, with the grade, the manganese content and the sizing stated. The delivery term and the port of loading change the landed cost substantially for the buyer.

A dated reference such as the September 28, 2023 assessment reflects the business reported during the assessment window rather than a formal exchange settlement.

Factors That Move the Price

Manganese ore costs, electricity and coke prices, steel demand and export logistics are the main drivers. India benefits from domestic ore access, but energy and reductant costs still shape the cost curve.

Global steel output, especially in Asia, sets the pace of demand for the export market.

Buying Checklist

Confirm the grade, the manganese and carbon content, the sizing and the delivery term before comparing offers. Ask for a certificate of analysis with each lot and verify the loading port and the shipment schedule, since freight and timing affect the true landed cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
