In March 2025, Türkiye imported a total of 9,218.166 tons of ferrosilicon with a silicon content greater than 55%, according to recently released customs data. Ferrosilicon, a crucial alloy in steelmaking and foundry industries, continues to play a vital role in Türkiye's metallurgical sector. The top supplier for the month was Iran, exporting 3,987.46 tons, making up more than 43% of the total imports. Iran has consistently been a leading partner for Türkiye due to its geographic proximity and competitive pricing.
Russia followed as the second-largest supplier, providing 2,335.046 tons, while Kazakhstan contributed 1,840.677 tons. These three countries alone accounted for over 86% of Türkiye's ferrosilicon imports in March. Brazil, another key global producer, shipped 500 tons, further highlighting the global scope of Türkiye's sourcing strategy.
Smaller quantities were imported from Azerbaijan (200 tons), Thailand (124 tons), Norway (81.03 tons), Germany (61.757 tons), and China (37.8 tons). The data also included minor imports from Uzbekistan (23.99 tons), the United Kingdom (22.406 tons), and Slovakia (4 tons).
With global demand rising for ferrosilicon 75, high-carbon ferrosilicon, and low aluminum ferrosilicon, Türkiye's diverse sourcing reflects its strategy to ensure availability across various grades and specifications. These ferrosilicon variants are critical in processes such as deoxidizing steel and improving the mechanical properties of cast iron.
As Türkiye continues to strengthen its steel production capabilities, monitoring import trends of raw materials like ferrosilicon remains essential. This data offers insight into trade relationships, market demands, and the shifting landscape of the ferrosilicon market globally.
