The world's chromite deposits are mainly distributed in the Great Rift Valley ore belt in East Africa, the Ural ore belt in the Eurasian boundary mountains, the Alps-Himalayan ore belt and the Pacific Rim ore belt. The chromite resources in the nearly north-south fold belt account for more than 90% of the world's total. Among them, South Africa, Kazakhstan and Zimbabwe account for more than 85% of the world's total proven chromite reserves, accounting for more than 90% of the reserve base, and South Africa alone accounts for about 3/4 of the reserve base.

 

Mineral dressing principle: Since mingling is the metal with the most uses, it ranks first among the "strategic metals". In today's world, countries with chrome ore resources or countries lacking in resources are stepping up research on chrome ore beneficiation. The selection methods include:

 

Gravity election: such as jig, shaker, spiral chute, dense medium cyclone, etc.
Magneto-electric separation: including high-intensity field magnetic separation and high-voltage electric separation.
Flotation and flocculation flotation.
Joint election: such as re-election and electric election
Chemical beneficiation: processing extremely fine-grained refractory chromium-depleted ore

In the above-mentioned chromium ore beneficiation methods, the gravity separation method is mainly used in production, and shaking table and jigging separation are often used. Sometimes gravity separation concentrate is re-selected by weak selection or strong magnetic separation to further improve the grade and chromium-iron ratio of chrome concentrate.

Chromium ore matching principle: In the actual production of high-carbon ferrochrome, it is often necessary to choose a suitable mineral mix and mix ratio. The principles of chrome ore matching mainly include:

 

Appropriate chromium-iron ratio (Cr2/FeO). Generally speaking, smelting alloys with a chromium content of more than 50% requires a Cr2O3/>FeO ratio of more than 2.0; while smelting alloys with a chromium content of more than 60% requires a ratio of more than 2.6.

Appropriate MO/A203 ratio. It not only affects the conductivity and reduction properties of slag, but also affects the carbon-containing disk of the alloy. In actual production, using MgO/Al2O3, chromium ore with a low ratio needs to be mixed with a sufficient amount of coke to increase the thickness of the coke layer. On the one hand, it is to ensure that the bottom of the furnace is not easily damaged, and on the other hand, it is also to increase the unreduced ore core. residence time in the coke layer. Reduce running chromium in slag.

Appropriate chunkiness collocation. When powder ore is used alone, it is easy to cause powder ore sintering, which makes the air permeability of the material surface worse, and seriously damages the smelting atmosphere: the use of large chromium ore is easy to increase the thickness of the refining layer, resulting in low carbon content in the alloy.

 

Suitable melting properties. The simple use of fusible chrome ore will cause premature slag formation, making the melting speed faster than the reduction speed, which will easily cause high chromium in the slag; pure use of refractory chrome ore will thicken the refined layer, and a large number of unreduced ore nuclei and alloys will appear. Low carbon content and other phenomena have brought great difficulties to normal smelting. Reasonable collocation of chromium ore makes slag have a reasonable melting point, which is very important to improve economic indicators.
