What is Zirconium for Zirconium Sputtering Targets?
Zirconium is a hard, shiny, silvery metallic material. It is extracted from ores (oxides or zircon, ZrSiO4), converted to tetrahalides, and then reduced with magnesium. Zirconium metal is extremely corrosion resistant because a stable zirconium oxide film forms on the surface and is resistant to acids (except HF) and alkalis.
Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, zirconium is widely used in the chemical industry where corrosive conditions exist. In addition, due to its excellent high temperature properties, coupled with its low neutron absorption rate, it is used in the construction of nuclear reactors. Pure zirconium metal is also used as the lining of jet engines. Zirconium is used as an alloying element and the resulting alloy has improved mechanical properties. When used as a sputtering target material, zirconium can be sputter-coated on the target substrate to form a thin film of zirconium metal. ZhenAn manufactures and supplies standard and custom zirconium metal sputtering targets. Available zirconium metal grades include 702 grade and 99.95% grade with low Hf content (<100 ppm).
