High Purity Silicon Carbide
SiC has been used in a variety of applications, including electronics, abrasives, and refractories. In this article, we will explore the many benefits of silicon carbide.
Description
Products Description
SiC has other advantages as well, such as its low thermal expansion coefficient (meaning it does not expand or contract much with temperature changes) and its low density (which makes it lighter than most metals). These properties make it useful in a variety of other applications, such as automotive components, composite materials, and even in jewelry.
Despite its many benefits, silicon carbide is not without its challenges. One of the biggest obstacles to its wider adoption is its cost. SiC is more expensive than many other materials, which can make it prohibitive for some applications. However, as the technology for producing SiC continues to improve, its cost is expected to decrease, making it more accessible.
Another challenge with silicon carbide is its processing. Due to its hardness and brittleness, SiC can be difficult to machine and shape. However, new manufacturing techniques and equipment are being developed to address these challenges, which should make it easier to work with SiC in the future.
In conclusion, silicon carbide is a valuable material with many benefits. Its strength, durability, resistance to high temperatures and chemicals, and electrical properties make it a popular choice for a variety of applications. While there are challenges to its adoption, ongoing research and development should continue to make SiC more accessible and easier to use. As our world continues to demand materials with ever-increasing performance and resilience, silicon carbide should continue to play an important role.

Product Index

Silicon carbide has two commonly used basic varieties, black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, both of which belong to α-SiC. ① Black silicon carbide contains about 95% SiC, and its toughness is higher than that of green silicon carbide. It is mostly used for processing materials with low tensile strength, such as glass, ceramics, stone, refractory materials, cast iron and non-ferrous metals.
Green silicon carbide contains more than 97% SiC and has good self-sharpening properties. It is mostly used for processing hard alloys, titanium alloys and optical glass, and is also used for honing cylinder liners and fine grinding high-speed steel tools. In addition, there is cubic silicon carbide, which is a yellow-green crystal produced by a special process. The abrasive tools used to make it are suitable for superfinishing of bearings.
The surface roughness can be processed from Ra32-0.16 micron to Ra0.04- 0.02 micron
