Steel making: silica block used as deoxidizer and desulfurizer in the iron and steel industry. When added to the steelmaking process, the silicon blocks react with oxygen and sulfur to reduce their content in the molten steel. This improves the quality of the steel, enhances mechanical properties and reduces brittleness.
