 Description

High Purity Silica Fume is a byproduct of the production of silicon metal and ferrosilicon alloys. It is a very fine, amorphous powder composed of spherical particles with an average diameter of 0.1 microns. High Purity Silica Fume is also known as microsilica or condensed silica fume.

The addition of High Purity Silica Fume to concrete has been shown to significantly improve its mechanical properties and durability. One of the most important benefits of using High Purity Silica Fume in concrete is its ability to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete.

When High Purity Silica Fume is added to concrete, it reacts with the calcium hydroxide produced during the hydration process to form additional calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel. This reaction reduces the amount of calcium hydroxide available to react with atmospheric carbon dioxide, resulting in a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

In addition to reducing the carbon footprint of concrete, the addition of High Purity Silica Fume to concrete also improves its compressive strength, flexural strength, abrasion resistance, and freeze-thaw resistance. It also reduces the permeability of concrete, making it more resistant to water penetration and chloride ion ingress.
