Description
Ferro silicon is a kind of ferro alloys which is integrated of silicon and iron. The ratio of the two chemical substances are combined different, with the proportion of silicon ranging anywhere between 15% and 90% . The most widely used is 75% ferrosilicon. This alloy is also known by the name of ferro silicium. Its identification has known by CAS Number: 8049-17-0 and its chemical formula is “FeSi”.Because silicon and oxygen are easy to synthesize silicon dioxide, silicon iron is often used as deoxidizer when making steel, and because SiO2 produces a lot of heat, it also can improve the temperature of steel.

Uses
(1) Used as deoxidizer and alloy agent in steelmaking industry.
(2) Used as inoculation agent and spheroidizing agent in the cast iron industry, adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon in the cast iron process can prevent the formation of carbide in iron and promote the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite.
(3) Ferrosilicon is the main raw material for the production of magnesium metal, with a ton consumption of about 1.1 tons.
(4) Finely ground or atomized ferrosilicon powder can be used as a suspended phase in the mineral processing industry and as a coating for welding rods in the electrode manufacturing industry.
