Low Medium High Carbon Ferrochrome

Low Medium High Carbon Ferrochrome

Ferrochrome is an iron alloy of chromium and iron.

Description

Description

FerroChromium Lump, is an alloy comprising of iron and chromium. The alloy is used extensively in the production of stainless steel. It is known for its ability to impart corrosion resistance, durability, and other essential properties to the steel. Based on the carbon content, Ferrochrome can be classified into three broad categories- Low, Medium, and High carbon Ferrochrome.
Low Carbon Ferrochrome (LCFeCr) contains less than 0.1% carbon content and is used mainly in the production of non-corrosive steels. It provides high resistance to wear and tear and is widely used in the making of ship hulls, cutlery, and utensils.

FeaturesMedium Carbon Ferrochrome (MCFeCr) contains 0.1% to 0.5% carbon content and is used primarily in the production of non-corrosive steels used in construction, manufacturing machinery, and automotive applications. It provides high tensile strength, a high melting point, and excellent corrosion resistance.
High Carbon Ferrochrome (HCFeCr) contains more than 0.5% of carbon content and is commonly used in the production of stainless steel. It provides high hardness, excellent heat resistance, and corrosion resistance. Ferrochrome is melted along with other alloys like nickel, molybdenum, and tungsten to provide the necessary properties to the stainless steel.
Ferrochrome is also available in the form of Chromium FerroChromium Lump, which is preferred by the steel industry due to its higher density, cleaner composition, and consistent quality. This lump form of Ferrochrome is ideal for steel production, as it provides the necessary properties without the need for additional processing, thus saving time and costs.
In conclusion, Ferrochrome and its different variants are highly preferred in the steel industry for their ability to provide essential properties to the steel. These alloys are used extensively in various manufacturing processes, including construction, automotive, and other applications. The demand for Ferrochrome is expected to increase as the demand for stainless steel and other non-corrosive steel continues to grow.

Advantages
- Low carbon content makes it easier to be melted and molded
- Used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent in the production of stainless steel and other alloys
- Improves the strength and corrosion resistance of steel
- Also used in the production of welding rods and in the coating of metal surfaces for protection against corrosion
