Introduction

 

Molecular formula of low carbon ferrochrome: FeCr55C25 (0.15~0.50% carbon content). According to different carbon content, ferrochrome can be divided into carbon ferrochrome (including charging grade ferrochrome), medium carbon ferrochrome, low carbon ferrochrome, micro-carbon ferrochrome, etc. Commonly used are silicon chromium alloy, ferrochromium nitride and so on.

 

Ferrochromium is mainly used as an alloy additive for steelmaking, and was added in the late stage of steelmaking in the past. To smelt stainless steel and other low-carbon steels, low and micro-carbon ferrochrome must be used, so the production of refined ferrochrome was once developed on a large scale. Due to the improvement of the steelmaking process, when the AOD method (see external refining) is used to produce stainless steel and other steel grades, carbon ferrochrome (mainly charging grade ferrochrome) is used to charge the furnace, so it only needs to be lowered and lowered in the later stage. The composition of micro-carbon ferrochrome is adjusted, so the focus of current ferrochrome production is refining carbon ferrochrome.

 

Smelting method
The high-carbon ferrochrome refining method is divided into refining high-carbon ferrochrome with chromium ore and refining high-carbon ferrochrome with oxygen. When high-carbon ferrochrome is used as chromium ore concentrate, the refining slag has a higher viscosity and a higher melting point, and the temperature in the smelting process must be higher. Therefore, the power consumption is high, the lining life is short, and the carbon content is not easy to drop. Blowing high-carbon ferrochrome with oxygen has great advantages, such as high productivity, low cost, and high recovery rate.

The traditional production method is still electric silicon thermal method. The electric silicon thermal method is to use the silicon in the silicon-

chromium alloy to reduce the oxides of chromium and iron under the condition of creating alkaline slag in the electric furnace, so as to produce medium and low carbon ferrochrome.
